Speaking of intersections between art and bike, I stumbled across this glorious rendition of Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic “Starry Night” painted by Darren Wheeler of 2Wheeler Customs on a KirkLee carbon fiber frame. The attention to detail is remarkable and does no injustice to the masterpiece. If I read correctly, the thing is made up of 36 layers of clearcoated hand paintings. In my mind, that’s no small undertaking for a piece of fine art on canvas, so it goes without saying it’s pretty impressive for a bicycle coating. It should go without saying that it took the award for best paint at the 2011 North American Handmade Bicycle Show. I bet Pegoretti is fuming.
